Many thanks to Sean Hennessey and his blog about the Nation’s Capital Bloomingdale neighborhood (see neighborhood link on this page)  The Half Show and MotherTalkers for links.  New listeners are a good thing and the links from these two sources have been a real shot in the arm for The ABW Show and what was my sagging commitment to continue.

They’re gone–Joanna and Jonathan do Crenshaw Boulevard.  Los Angeles be nice to my kids.

They’re back–University and college listeners, Hampton University, San Francisco State University, William and Mary and Howard University.

Episode 29

I record all types of stories and then I try to find a theme for an episode.  Strangely enough a common thread seemed to be stories with people in various stages of undress?

So among the underwear and naked stories we hear my own most embarrassing moment and at the end of the episode we hear about a really famous lady in her underwear on the airplane!

Roger…or Roger that…is what a Pilot says all day long.  It indicates that a message has been recieved.  But…is the message always understood?  Are we always on the same page?

Words can mean different things to different people which makes for some hilarious stories in the cockpit and the cabin!

The end of the episode has a great segment about the Aircraft manufacturer Fokker.  Roger? Roger that!

30 Power Struggle

podcasts - 3:25 am on Friday, August 17, 2007

Episode 30

Like every work environment there are power struggles in the airline industry.  You have stand offs between the Flight Attendants and passengers, the Captains and First Officers and Flight Attendants with each other.  Now on paper that probably doesn’t sound funny…but it really is!

At the end of the episode I tell about a Show Down that I regularly have with passengers on the airplane.

Andy joined in for a short chat about a recent collaborative project we’ve begun with Mogulus. More information on San’s Merry Band of Turtles (SMBot) will be released when it becomes available.

Tokyo Calling Episode 088

podcasts - 5:55 am on Wednesday, August 8, 2007

The levels are a little mismatched between segments of this 31 minute bounce-hit-cast. I’d rather have spent more time editing the file but ultimately the overwhelming reality of my schedule has forced me to release it as is.

It looks like I’ll have to slow things down with the podcast for the next 7 weeks or so. I’ll try to get two more episodes out this month.

Calling Tokyo Calling will continue it’s Friday morning/evening run for as long as I can maintain this balancing act.

Links mentioned in this episode will follow, as time allows.

Thanks to the Tokyo Calling singers for pulling me out of a tight situation. I had high hopes of recording a full-blown episode 91 of Tokyo Calling. Try as I might, it just wasn’t happening this evening.

Luckily the two eldest daughters allowed me to record them singing the new Intro and Outro themes to Doraemon. There is even a little bit of a fading echo of daughter #3 chiming in from time to time.

I have every intention of putting out #91 by the end of this coming weekend. Thanks for your continued patience.

Update 062707: When I woke up this morning, I noticed that TalkShoe had replaced the file I uploaded with the original blank recording. It would appear that more than 100 people have downloaded the blank one through RSS. I have restored the originally intended file. Sorry for any inconvenience.

2007 Nagoya Basho Day 11 Sumo Update

podcasts - 1:59 am on Friday, July 20, 2007

Who knows? It felt so good to record this 11 minute leader-board report that I might just have to dust off the old Sumo-Cast feed one of these days.

Thanks to San Nakji for prodding me to talk about sumo again. It really is an incredible sport. And this particular tournament looks like it will go down to the final match on the final day to determine the champion!

As mentioned on this recording, there is actually a live video feed of the action provided by the Nipon Sumo Kokkai. Check it out if you are near a computer and are awake between 16:00 and 18:00 JST. The video quality isn’t great but if you’re not in Japan and don’t have access to the NHK satellite programming, it’s the only game in town.

And finally, don’t forget Calling Tokyo Calling Episode 11. We’d love to have you join us over at Talkshoe on Friday July 20 at 9:00 EST / 22:00 JST.

tov69 - Trapped with a huge thanks to the Meandering Mouse!

podcasts - 1:57 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

This month, both the Meandering Mouse Podcast and the Disney Podcast Network are celebrating their first anniversary.

As a way of saying thanks to Jeff, I’m going back in my time machine phone booth and revisiting the first emails and clips that Jeff sent in to Trapped on Vacation back in November of 2005 when he pretty much became a co-host of TOV for a few months.  Without his contributions, I’m pretty positive that I would’ve given up and gotten bored with this gig back in December of ‘05.  Now of course with the DPN, I’m not doing this for listeners, I’m creating this show as a way of hanging out with friends that live around the world.  Just last night the Bleepin’ Wife and I were discussing the fact that some of our closest friends live across the country, and many of them we didn’t know just 10 months ago!  Strange but true.

So thanks for everything Jeff, here’s to another great year!

(I’m such an ass kisser…  although he’ll probably smack me for playing this stuff.  Compared to the Meandering Mouse today, it’s almost painful to listen to!  Gotta love that Griffin Lapel Mic that someone recommended so highly!)  ;)

PG-13 Warning!!!  I missed an edit and dropped an F-Bomb…  Right after I read Jeff’s original email that he sent me, I crack a beer.  When I open the beer skip 10 seconds and you’ll miss the f-bomb (I called Jeff an f-in’ awesome friend.)  The rest is clean I promise!

ToV67 - Trapped with an evil pause button and Tokyo DisneySea! (pt1)

podcasts - 1:57 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

This week Trapped on Vacation gets attacked by the Evil Pause Button of Death!!!

All day on Thursday I kept accidentally pausing while recording.  Did I ever learn my lesson???   H3ll no!!!  Why?  Because Iâm an idiotâ

Actually I was having too much fun hanging out with Auntie Lo and SilverJeeper (plus the Bleepinâ Wife of course) that I just wasnât paying attention.

So this week we hit Big Thunder, followed by the biggest pause button disappointment of the day (18 seconds of heartache.)  We then head on over and get our Buzz on in Tomorrowland.

This week is also the first installment of DrDuckâs trip to Tokyo Disney Resort!  When I met him and his family at Epcot a few months ago, he gave me literally hours of audio. Iâve finally been able to begin going through it.  Over the next few weeks, months, years, etc, Iâll be sharing his wonderful trip a few minutes at a time.  Itâs really incredible stuff, and his family is great!!!

Ending things this week is a segment from this weekâs episode of the Teknikal Difficulties Podcast.  Sketch Comedy featuring the Main Street Electrical Parade.  It cracked me up so much that I had to email
Cayenne
to ask him if I could play it.  Thankfully he said yes!

ToV 72 - Trapped in a Funky Nation at Mardi Gras!

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Originally I intended to hit Mardi Gras at Universal to catch the Doobie Brothers.  That didn’t happen.

In my opinion, I found something better!  Each week on the "small stage" they bring in musical acts directly from New Orleans.  This week was Big Sam’s Funky Nation, and performed 30 minutes of non-stop high energy funk!  After watching their set, I really didn’t think that the Doobie Brothers could’ve topped it, so I left.  :)

Have fun!

ToV68 - Trapped with Bad Jokes and Vibrating S Words

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

We’re back from Colorado!  No broken bones, but no vacation audio either because I discovered that binaural mics don’t work when they’re covered by big wooly hats or brain buckets.  No biggie, I still had a great time!

This week we head back in time thanks to SilverJeeper and Lorien and revisit the worst Jungle Cruise ever!  Plus I take care of a listener request and head back to DisneyQuest to Ride the Comics.

Have fun!

ToV71 - Trapped with a Seminole in Gatorland

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

If you’ve been following the show over at the DPN (now easily accessible at http://www.thedpn.com ) you already know what I did this week!

The Bleepin’ Wife and I spent a great day visiting one of the oldest, and perhaps my favorite attraction in Central Florida, Gatorland!

I have enough audio to spread through a couple shows, but this week we take in the World Famous Gatorland Jumparoo and the Aligator Wrestling show.  I’ve been going there for quite some time, but this visit was the first time I saw a woman aligator wrestler.  It could be that they’ve had women wrestlers for years but I just never happened to be there when they were working, who knows…

Anyways we had a great time and will probably be visiting again in the future.  The Bleepin’ Wife had never been there before and loved it!

Oh, I almost forgot the death defying stupid stunts!  We also feed the gators hot dogs on sticks, and then I take in Gatorland’s Adventure Hour where I paid $10 to go on the other side of the fence and feed the gators up close from 3 feet away!  That was perhaps the coolest thing that I’ve done in quite a while!  I’d like to thank Gatorland employee, Chris for convincing me to do it and carrying the big stick!

The Gatorland staff is among the friendliest in the area.  The all seem to have a passion for what they do and where they work.

Have fun!

tov 66 - Trapped with Pirates, Aliens, and Astroblasters!

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

This week we escape the strange January heat and head into the air conditioning of Disneyquest!

Come along as the Bleepin’ Wife and I experience Alien Encounter Invasion, The Virtual Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear’s Astroblasters (The Original!) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold.

Hours of interactive adventures edited down to just over 40 minutes!

Enjoy!

ToV75 - Trapped in Mexico and North Montana

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

eing Spring Break, the Bleepin’ Wife and I skipped the parks on our days off because the crowds are evil! Although I took one for the team and hit Epcot on Saturday night to take a voyage on the Mexican Boat Ride, I mean the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros.
After that I take a leisurely stroll around World Showcase stopping to plop in a couch and listen to some music in a Flower & Garden Festival Display, and finally head to North Montana as I catch Fiddler’s Joy performing on the stage there. I almost forgot!!! There’s about 30 seconds of Paul Revere and the Raiders in there as well… I caught the very eng of their show.

Everything’s wrapped up with either the best or worst Earlioke ever. I have no idea how Earlioke spun so far out of control, (and why you people keep sending me email encouraging me to keep doing it!?!?!) bonus points for the first person who figures out and posts what the connection is between the song and where I went in the episode.

TOV 70 - Trapped with Kids in a Hotel

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

The start of TOV this week was recorded live at Epcot at the DPN MiniMeet. I forgot to mention that Silverwolf2006 was also there. (Sorry manâ)

This week we take the Vacation Neice and Nephew to the Parks. We see the Yeti at Animal Kingdom and head over to the Disney-MGM Studios to hop on the Tower of Terror. We all got on, but some of us didn’t exactly make it. Hope you ennjoy it! It was a great week, and I’m exhausted!

tov 78 - Trapped at Westfest with Pets

podcasts - 1:56 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Woot! Back from Westfest and boy are the Bleepin’ Wife and I TIRED!!!
After we wander around looking for other Westfest attendees, we head to Sea World Orlando to take in Pets Ahoy!

Of course it’s the first week of May and TOV listeners know what that means… It means that I play a fun Jonathan Coulton song called First of May at the end of the show that isn’t exactly kid safe. So parents you have been warned. The rest of the show is fine, I’ll tell you when to stop.

Originally I recorded this on the First of May but the Vacation Home rehab schedule didn’t let me edit until last night. Oops!
